#Kony2012, Sour Fufu, and All God’s Children

In case you’ve been hiding under a rock for the last few days and haven’t seen Invisible Children’s viral film about Joseph Kony, I’ll embed it here. Go ahead and watch it. I’ll wait…

Of course there has been a flurry of negative responses to the video too, some of them very valid. But seriously? This is an informational campaign, aimed at decimating ambivalence. And the ambivalence really has to go.

Ugandan children are just as important as American children in God’s eyes, and they should be in the eyes of God’s followers as well. No excuses.

I can’t watch videos like this without getting a sick, hard feeling in the pit of my stomach, like I’ve swallowed sour fufu. If it’s traumatic for me, I can’t imagine what it is like for the people of Uganda.

Some days I just want to hop the next flight back to Africa and hunker down, stick my finger in the dam like the little Dutch boy and do what I can to stem the flow of human suffering. Suffice it to say, today is one of those days.

That’s it. Peace out.
