Aside

Heard at my House

Clay: *frantic knocking* “Jamie! Jamie! You’ve gotta come help Grant!”

My ears perk up as Jamie growls at his annoying little brothers to go away.

Grant “Red alert! Red alert!”

I run to the great room to find out who’s in life-threatening danger, only to discover it’s Mario, of Mario Brothers fame. Clay dashes to Grant’s side at the computer.

Clay: “Mommy, Jamison won’t come help Grant defeat Birdo!”

Me: “So? He doesn’t have to help Grant with computer games.”

I begin making a peanut butter sandwich, to keep my foray into the chaotic universe of the great room from being a total waste. I heart peanut butter.

Clay: *assuming professional,911 operator tone* “Okay Grant. Listen to me. Don’t die. Here’s what you have to do. Pick up the eggs, and throw them at Birdo.”

At this point, I am regretting last night’s decision not to put the quash on the two oldest watching “Speed” with Aaron.

Grant: *frantic* “But I’m only four! I only go to school at Barnyard Buddies!”

Clay: “You can do it Grant! I have faith in you!”

I don’t know if Mario got away from Birdo, but I got away with my peanut butter sandwich and a couple giggles.
